Hi Nhai,
When you say: I think that ... you are saying what you believe and that is your opinion. When you say: I assume that ... you are saying something that you have worked out for yourself and that is your conclusion.
Two examples: I think that you should walk more often and not use your car all the time.
As you want to lose weight, I assume you will walk to the station and not use your car.

Dear Torsten,
I try classify the conditionals which I found Alan's text: 1.group: if+pres .simple/pres.cont+pres.simple/pres.passive
-If I tell people today, they say... -If I think about it know, I just can't imagine... -If you are trying to get out of conscription...just forget...if you honestly imagine...you are very much mistaken -if I tell them...I still have emotional scars -if you want to visit the Tower..it'is quite expensive -I think three month is long enough if you want to get to know a place.
2. group:if+ present+ simple future
-If you really do...you'll probably be a pilot -If you really want to get out of...I'll help you... -If you don't relax, you'll end up...
3.group:if+ simple past+ conditional present
-if you were reasonably fit...could stand up... -if you objected to...you could always object... -if you thought...you were called...you had to appear...you would probably be exempt...you would work in a hospital... -If I were you dear I'd get on with. -If I were you, I'd do what I am doing. -if the telephone rang, I would jump... -If the postman arrived late, I couldn't relax... -If I kept quite about it...the army would forget about me.
4.group: if +past perfect+ past conditional
-if someone had told me...I would have not believed it -if I had taken the trouble...I could have chosen... -If he'd known what happened...he would have done it
I hope I didn't leave out something.
Best regards: Kati Svaby |

You will find a Learner's Dictionary very useful for such distinctions.
Possible Probable
If, having read them, you need further explanation, then we will try to help. Let us know. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
