Is this a bad word? #1 (permalink) Sun Oct 05, 2003 10:39 am   Is this a bad word?

Hi,
I’ve just come across this swear word – I know it’s a rather bad one but how strong is it really and how often is it used?
The word is ‘wanker’ – my Babylon dictionary says it’s of British origin meaning ‘jerk’, ‘stupid person’...
Thanks

Hi Savvythought,
This isn't a swear work it's just a contemptuous word to describe someone you consider to be worthless, inferior and basically useless. It's a word used by men about other men and isn't used in so-called 'polite' society. It has a sexual origin and comes I would say from army sources and literally means someone who masturbates.
