Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Grades encourage students to learn. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
In my opinion grades alone do not encourage students to study but the effects which good grades are connected to.
First of all grades are necessary in our modern society because the most important point nowadays are qualifications. Therefore grades are used to categorize students and to make it easier for companies to rate and get a picture of them. So a student with good grades usually has access to the best jobs and to the higher income.
So as good grades are connected to wealth and good social position, students are studying to achieve these goals.
But there are also negative effects caused by marks.
First of all I think that marks should only be used for children of at least 8 years of age, otherwise the child is not able to understand this rating system and probably will lose its interest in learning. In my opinion the best way to rate youngsters are motivational letters which point out in which subject the student has to invest more interest.
Second marks keep students under pressure to study more and more in order to achieve good marks, which is probably the reason for burnout syndromes at high schools and universities.
So summarizing all the aforementioned facts, I would say that marks force students to learn, because nowadays it is nearly impossible to get a well paid job without good qualifications. ................................................................................................................................ Not bad, but I'm sure you can do a lot better than this. Remember, I want your best work, not just another essay. Review carefully.
