"It is possible to pass laws that control or place limits on people's behavior, but legislation cannot reform human nature. Laws cannot change what is in people's hearts and minds.
Have you ever heard in the news , “ A new legisilation has been put that states that you must love your neighbours , take care of you wife and save your health”? Of course NO , You can have control by laws on actions but not on thoughts and feelings. Some think that laws can have control on everything. They think that it can prevent someone from harming his unbeloved neighbor . They also think that it can prevent violence against women by putting harsh punishments against people who cause injuries to their wives. In addition to this , they think by putting punishments against smokers in public places ,people’s lives are saved. But I totally disagree with this thought, can law prevent hating you neighbor even if you don’t harm him? This is impossible ,furthermore , I think that if a neighbor is not harmed by a direct action , hatred itself is a great harm. Add to this violence against women in many peoples’s houses,If by the law women is protected against physical attack , what about emotional attack ? The only treatment to such a social defect will not come from law but from changing people’s view to woman. Another example is laws prohibiting smoking in public areas;it can’t prevent harm on one’s health at all as it can’t prevent him from smoking at home ;this can only by done by increasing awareness to the harms of smoking. We can conclude from that that changing people’s minds and hearts can never be done by legisilations , but by awareness and learning instead. |
