Dear learner, A dishwasher is a machine that washes dishes and other utensils (forks, spoons, knives, glasses, etc.) Daniela P.S. Just to remind you that the correct way to ask your question is "What DOES dishwasher MEAN?" _________________ English Language Learning Online

Teacher Daniela, Why were we use HAVE instead of HAS? I mean, Shouldn't we say "Does your kitchen HAS a dishwasher?" instead of "Does your kitchen HAVE a dishwasher?" ?

'Have' matches 'does'.
Look at the statement forms.
Your kitchen has a dishwasher - correct. Your kitchen does have a dishwasher - correct.
Your kitchen have a dishwasher - incorrect, Your kitchen does has a dishwasher - incorrect _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

I hope I got your examples correctly. use does for it and then don't need to use has just use HAVE right?
But I'm afraid, I think I still didn't get it.
Does it has a dishwasher? (it refer to your kitchen). Where is the wrong here?
Thank you in advance. |

Your kitchen has a dishwasher. It has a dishwasher.
However, when framing a sentence using the auxiliary verb "to do" (in Simple Present/Past), we use the base form of the main verb (in this case, 'have')
Does your kitchen have a dishwasher? Does it have a dishwasher? Your kitchen does have a dishwasher. It does have a dishwasher.
"Does" already represents the singular form of the sentence, so we don't use the singular form of the word "have".
do/does not + <base form> (Rule for Simple Present) The verb we have is "to have" (base form: have) he correct sentence: It does have... / it does not have ... (The positive form is only used to add emphasis. The negative form is the most common.)
You will notice this with other verbs as well. Verb: to play Affirmative: He plays / He does play ('does' only used for emphasis) Negative: He does not play
Verb: to write Affirmative: She writes / She does write ('does' only used for emphasis) Negative: She does not write _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
