Would you tell me whether I am right wit my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

The rebuff this weak-willed man suffered at the hands of his friends drove him into the arms of his enemies.

drive one into somebody’s arms = force someone into wanting help from somebody

Thanks for your efforts
Ivo
