Hi Charles, we've been working on this and eventually it will get fixed. I'm forwarding this thread to our tech team. By the way, what is the status on your email notifications? Are you receiving them now?
Many thanks, Torsten

I think so, Torsten. If I get some, am I necessarily getting them all? _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

No, I'm still (12/3) getting this message after I edit a test:
'The test couldn't be created. (problem with update in DB or edit files)' _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Mister Micawber, what is the # of the test you are trying to edit? Also which version of IE are you using? We have run at least 75 tests on 4 or more machines without any errors so this is rather unusual.
I will also suggest you clear your browser cache prior to your next login to the Alan Tool.

PS: What I'm interested in is whether the message is true or not. Did the edit actually go through? _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

All test editing is done using the same system which we call Alan's Author Tool or Alan Tool because it is located at /alan/. So it was test 420? Did you try to edit any other tests? _________________ Joel Milne,

If you send me the details of the edit by PM I can login and make the changes. Also I might try sending you different login/password to try as well. _________________ Joel Milne,

Did you try to edit any other tests?-- Yes. Don't ask me which ones. There's been a lot of water under the bridge.
If you send me the details of the edit by PM I can login and make the changes.-- I probably edited several of the questions in passing, but the change to check is whether "There was all manners of things" now reads "There were all manner of things" in Q7. It should.
Also I might try sending you different login/password to try as well.-- OK, but please tell me my old password if I have to go back to it. It has been just a row of dots for months or years now, and I've forgotten it. _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

It appears in the editing tool as Intermediate test 743. City on the Seas.
As MM says, despite the error message, when returning to the edit the changes appear to have 'taken', but the error message indicates otherwise... so the question is have the changes actually worked or not? I edited a number of questions in that test, but if the changes 'took' the following should be easy to spot:
Q2 - 'guest' should now be 'guests'. Q3 - 'every' should now be 'each'. Q4 - 'identification' should now be 'identification document'. Q6 - 'enters' should now be 'enter' and 'purse' should be 'purses'. Q8 - 'restaruants' should now be 'restaurants'. Q10 - 'disembaarks' should now be 'disembarks'. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

I've just edited intermediate test 744, Bedbugs, and elementary test 232, Areas in a House (1) I don't have the same problem with these tests - the final message indicates success: The test has been edited! (Incidentally the Bedbugs test is duplicated in the elementary section - test #240! It should probably be removed from there.)
However when I tried editing intermediate tests 721, 725 and 742 I got the same error message: The test couldn't be created. (problem with update in DB or edit files) _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
