Do smartphones really make people smarter? #1 (permalink) Wed Dec 08, 2010 21:41 pm   Do smartphones really make people smarter?

Good evening everyone. Nowadays so many of us have one or two smartphones, a net- or notebook, an iPad or an iPod or a tablet PC or any other fancy little device.

My question is does all this new technology make us really smarter? I mean, has the communication transmitted by those devices improved as dramatically as the technology?

Do we new absorb and produce more information which is more valuable than a few years ago? Or are we simply facing an information overload driven by technologies and industries?

I look forward to sharing thoughts with you on this one.
Many thanks,
Torsten

Always wondered if "Smart" Phone was a play on the other meaning as in "You're looking very smart today Sir" but in answer to your question Torsten I would guess in one way they make us more Lazy than we need to be, and it could probably be argued we are less aware of what's actually going on round us simply because we are evaluating useless information we normally wouldn't be exposed to...

So I suppose in that sense it could be argued they don't make us "Smarter".
