Dear Mr Torten,
I want to improve my English because there are so much that I do not know. I would like to take this opportunity to learn as much as I can then teach others.
When I was in school, I did not have a good English teacher who was willing to impart the knowledge she had to me.
I thank God that is never too late as long as I am still in pursue of my dream.
Thank you for being my teacher.
God bless you.
Your sincerely,
Catherine Tan |

A very good and funny way to improve your English is to read jokes books. But I thought to was hard to get hold of jokes books when I was in England last time and the reason for it was I used the wrong word. I said funny history books instaed of jokes books. You can learn a lof of English by reading riddles too. If you want to be able to understand the language in leaflets you get when you visit churches and other buildings you have to learn many difficult words before being able to understand the contents in that sort of books without using a dictionary. /Maria |

Dear Torsten,
I am studying at RWTH Aachen University in Germany for PhD degree, you know, not so many guys in Germany would speak English actively with you; on the other hand, as engineer researcher, I must and would prefer to improve my scientific writing and oral presentation skills in English which is popular in every corner of the world, that's why I am still interested in learning English. So far, I have got a perfect feeling about the information or answers presented by some post. As an international PhD student in Germany, there is no barrier to prevent me to make progress in either English or German.
Sincerely, Hui |

Dear Mr Torsten,
I am sorry to misspell your name. That is why I need to learn English. Well I believe that practice makes perfect. There is no short cut to learning.
I remember one of the emails I received on lesson about the difference between written and spoken English language like "Don't" and "Do not". In many of the tests I found "don't, doesn't and shouldn't instead of do not, does not and should not." Can you please explain more?
Thank you.

| I joined this 4rum cause I thought I really needed to get high quality of my English, I really thought that. But, It took so much time to use computer only to read English. I found it would be better if I bought a book ,read it and go to an extra English class. I am really glad that you care about us . I still go to this 4rum but not so much, I still read 4rum member's post . Don't worry, when I like to write something, I will post mesage. And now, electricity cost an arm an leg so I can't use computer regularly. |

Good morning sir, I have read the replies relate to this wonderful topic. They are useful as I found new words I would like to learn and memorise them. In fact I want to improve my English because of 2 reasons: First of all I like English so much that when I meet any new word I memorise it. This of course exhaust me ,you wont believe me but if I met 100 new words I wish if I could memorise them all simultaneously. I know that this is wrong but I want to know everything about it.I try to read alot of articles in English.I try to learn grammar and words from them.I think listening to the actors in movies would be much easier to learn the pronunciation of words and it would also be effective besides listening to CNN because in movies the actors speak quite slower than the announcer so you would be able to understand them and identify the pronunciation of the words and when you listen to CNN of course you will hear some of the words you have learnt from movies, time and again you will understand them easily. The second reason for which I want to improve my English is that :to help my students. Thats why I want to improve my English. |

Hello Torsten, Thank you in advance for doing your best trying to help me improve my english. I must say that your teaching method is of great importance. Unfortunately, at this period I am so busy that I have no time to spend improving my english. However, if future plans allow learning be sure of definite contact. Best regards

Hi Maw,
Thanks for sharing us so many great experiences in English. Moreover, I'm wondering are you an English teacher if this question doesn't offend you.
Speak to you soon.
