Hi,

1) It is unlikely that it will rain.
2) It is unlikely to rain.

1) It is unlikely that he will pass the exam.
2) He is unlikely to pass the exam.

Are above-mentioned sentences correct?

1) It is unlikely for him to pass the exam. Correct?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Untaught,

The first pair are fine. The last sentence:
Quote:
It is unlikely for him to pass the exam
doesn't work. You could say It is impossible for him to pass but 'unlikely' can't apply to a personal object in this context.
