I am just confused with the words "hard to be" and "look so tough" when you use in the following sentences though i am familiar with the words "hard" and "tough".

You're not an idiot. You're just trying so hard to be.

and this sentence

I like sitting next to you. But it makes me look so tough.

So please tell me the meaning of the above sentences.
Thanks in advance.

They are completely different.
1. You're not an idiot. You're just trying so hard to be (an idiot). ("An idiot" is dropped because it's pretty obvious what follows "hard to be")
2. I like sitting next to you. But it makes me look so tough. ("tough" means "hard to defeat, strong, rugged")

Does that mean
1. I am trying to be an idiot.
Still I cannot understand the second one.

1) Yes, it means that you are trying to be an idiot (so you are behaving like one).

2) Whoever the person is sitting next to obviously looks very small, timid and gently - because when the person sits next to her there is a marked contrast which makes the person appear to be tougher than they would appear next to anyone of 'normal' stature.

Got it.
This guy is tougher than the sitting guy.
Thanks a lot.
