Hi teacher,

Please see the below sentence:

I liked the idea of tearing through the skies away from it all.
(cited from Conditionals or "On Condition")

There is a "skies" in it, I means "sky" should be a non-countable word, could you help me to explain that?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

'The skies' is an idiomatic way of referring to the sky. However, 'sky' is not uncountable; it is a singular entity.

Hi Mister Micawber,

Thanks for your help, it is surprised that 'sky' is a singular entity for me.
And Could you quote me some examples of what you mean?

Thank you.

There is only one sky.
The sky is blue.
Far beyond I see a sky of blue, still further beyond I see mountain peaks covered in mist.
