The following is taken from the editorial section of the local newspaper in Rockingham. "In order to save a considerable amount of money, Rockingham's century-old town hall should be torn down and replaced by the larger and more energy-efficient building that some citizens have proposed. The old town hall is too small to comfortably accommodate the number of people who are employed by the town. In addition, it is very costly to heat the old hall in winter and cool it in summer. The new, larger building would be more energy efficient, costing less per square foot to heat and cool than the old hall. Furthermore, it would be possible to rent out some of the space in the new building, thereby generating income for the town of Rockingham."
The author of the above abstract proposes to build a new buildibg in place of century old the Rockingham's town hall. This gives a positive perspicuity of the authour but there are few flaws that I would be highlighting here
Firstly, the condition of the Rockingham's town hall has not been mentioned. The only point that is being argued is maintaning the suitable temperature during winter and summer season. Here the reason why these temperatures are maintained has not been mentioned. The total cost for this effort is not given in the newspaper.
Seconly, On what aspects the citizens decided to have a energy efficient building? There is not metion of the plan or the type of the energy effocient being used for the new building? For instance, whether they are oing to use the soler energy or the nuclear energy to save te cost. Also if these are not readily available then the cost incurred to set this may be more that the total cost that they are currently bearing.
The author highlights that the town is small and with this new building the can be used for generating the income. This may be true but it lacks to mention the current population of the town and their profession. Also withe additional office space, they also need to consider the parking space for the future employees. The town currently may have soem unsed space and in that unused space the new building can be constructued.
Also before deciding about the new builiding, the citizen or the mayor for the town needs to sit and calcuclate the profit or the expenses of the new building the citizens are planning to construct.
On the whole , I think the authoer needs to study more before concluding about the old town hall or their decision of new buildiing. |
