I'm afraid I disagree.
'...rather a long way away' is quite a natural speech pattern in that context. It is certainly natural enough that to argue the use of a different phrase seems petty. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Dear Teacher,
I am happy to see the explaining of the different between the Verb HEAR and LISTEN. The verb HEAR is meant the awareness of sound in the ear, whereas the verb LISTEN is meant to pay attention what we hear.
However, I really get the errors when I do exercise. Therefore, I would like to interrupt you a few miniutes to explain me more about these verbs.
Thank you so much for this matter and I look forward to hearing from you.
With best wish.

| I wish to register my profound gratitude to the organizer of this forum. It has been of immense value to a lot of people including me. I pray that as you are watering others the good Lord will keep on watering you in Jesus name. Now, my question is: Why do you figuratively say "Put your best foot forward" ? Even though I appreciate that you have to put in your best in that contest, but why do you have to use"best" when you are comparing two feet? Ola Remisola |

Hi, Your first assumption was correct, the answer IS "hear" and not "listen". Read the sentence again: "Can you hear me all right over there because you are rather a long way away?" If this might be of a little help to you when you use listen, you need the preposition to. We usually say LISTEN TO. Here are some examples: I'm listening to the radio now. Are you listening to me? (I'm talking to you and I want to know if you pay attention to what I'm telling you.) Daniela |

Dear Tirsten,
Thank you very much for the lesson. I like all the lessons and they are very useful for me, especially the audio ones, because I can hear the native speakers. All the material is explained with the professionalism and I always understand it at a glance.
Kind regards, Helen1 |

Teacher she was on phone right? and she was talking with someone so it means its a present tense! isn't it ? Can you ......... me all right over there because you are rather a long way away? it seem like a present sentence because she were still on the phone.so why I'll go for "Listening" Listening & hearing both are the same words right! I'm so confused. |

Dear Torsten,
Thanks for the lesson 9. I'd like to take the test of " listen to vs. hear test". But when I click on the link for the test in the e-mail, it jumps to this forum. Please advise what can I do. Thank you!
