Well, the kid was disrupting lessons by farting out loud in class. That qualifies for a criminal offence. I think farting in class is among those criminal offences that are felonies. But don't get your panties in a bunch just yet - if there's no malicious intent or malice aforethought (or you cant prove it beyond reasonable doubt to a grand jury to make your inditement stand), then it's not a felony but just a bad case of the beans (when you bowels are in an uproar). Hehe.
I wonder what the bailif would be saying during the inditment phase in front of a grand jury. Probably "docket number 111 - the people versus Mr Kid. Charge - farting in class, ten counts". Then a long ripping noice resonates through the courtroom. The ADA wispers something in the bailif's ear and the bailif adds: .."the people'd like to amend the inditement to elevent counts of farting" The judge says "Ok, let's hear the people on bail" And the ADA says "given the violent nature of the crime, and that the defendant is a flight risk (at least judging by the sounds he sometimes makes it looks like he's got a whole jet engine thing going somewhere below his belt), the people request that the defendant be remanded without bail". _________________ If it's not easy, don't do it!

So the only trouble was that the kid was passing gas loudly? There was no deadly smell or anything of that kind? Then all he needs to do is learn how to let them out quietly or, in other words, how to squeeze them out silently:
http://www.ehow.com/how_2085137_pass-gas-quietly.html :-)
By the way Tort, I liked all that lawyerly talk, but now I am wondering: is the term 'inditement', not 'indictment'? _________________ Just remember... if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off! |

No, no Tort. I'm pretty sure that there are worse ways in which it is possible to spell inditement. Here are some for a start: indietmont indytemunt ynndyttmnnt ndtmnt iditmit. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

I only asked because it was spelled that way at least three times, so I thought maybe I just wasn't able to differentiate between the two words.

Agree. There is no need for examples though -- we can manage that ourselves. :-) No, no, wait -- so which term should Tort have used in that context 'inditement' or 'indictment'? Thanks _________________ Just remember... if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off! |

'Indictment' is the correct spelling.

Hehe, That's fair enough, though in my case the word was still legible (well, to a degree). I would be in a helluva bind trying to wrap my head around those words. Lol I still don't know what's gotten into me, I normally don't mangle words like that. My only excuse is that I was in a bit of a hurry at the time of writing.

I'vve been there very often! Be positive about it. Perhaps it's a sign that you are becoming fluent enough with the language that you don't feel the need to check everything quite so carefully. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
