Hello,
Could you tell me what the expression - there’s more content than you can shake a stick at - mean?
Here is the context:

There’s a lot of information to digest in these guides. In fact, there’s more content than you can shake a stick at! So, I’ll leave you to it for today.

I do understand that might mean a lot, but I would also like to know if it is widely used in the UK.

If you have more of something than you can shake a stick at, then you have a great deal of whatever it is.
It means a very large number; more than you can count; an overwhelming amount.

The origin is unclear. Here are some suggestions:
