Popular events like the football World Cup and other international sporting occasions are essential in easing international tensions and releasing patriot emotions in a safe way. Do you agree or disagree?



It stands to reason that the world in which we are living in is gradually developing into a multicultural society. Popular events, like the football World Cup and other international sporting occasions, in my opinion, do attribute a great deal to this globalizing process, since they allow people not only to reconcile ethnic rivalries but to express their patriotic feelings without worrying about causing much damage.

Indeed, global events make a substantial contribution to maintain the state of the world peace. This has been perfectly proven throughout human’s history. Going back to the ancient time, in 776 BC to be exact, when the first Olympic Games were held at the foot of Mount Olympus, we can easily notice that people at that time considered this event above all other things, and any war in progress were therefore halted to let the games take place. Every hatred was put aside, only were there the sporting spirits and boundless friendships. This meaning of holding such events remains its value till these days and even in the distant future. On international occasions, nations from all corners of the Earth get together to compete with each other for the top position in a fairest way, which brings about the pride for the whole country. Also, every country makes the best of the occasion to popularize its image by introducing national characters and merits, showing its people’ friendliness, or in short the best things of that country. Consequently, people will get a deeper mutual understanding and better knowledge of other cultures. Importantly, some misunderstanding or preconceptions are very likely to be eliminated. Tensions among countries, even though not completely, are possibly reduced tremendously.

What is more, participating in world events offers people the chances to express their patriotism freely but safely. It is a common sight that the citizens of the country together stand shoulder to shoulder to enthusiastically support their national team. These big fan, not only share the joy of victory with their heroes, but also share tears of defeat with the team. Whatever, the team is still the pride of the country, and these inhabitants will stand by their team no matter what. That is the moment best describing the unity of the whole nation. To boot, there are certainties that the acts of releasing the love of country is harmless in any way. This can be illustrated well by the example of the process of choosing the host nation for an international event, in which security is given the top priority. Moreover, participants, from heads of state, competitors to supporters, are the representatives for the entire nation. Hence, they will not do anything that may lose the nation’ face. Rather, they will be well aware of what they should do and what not in order to better their country’s impression in the eyes of foreign friends.

In conclusion, holding such international events brings many benefits to the betterment of human society, making sure people express their affection for their country safely and friendly and especially bridging the gaps between many ethics, as well as soothing the tense relationships among countries. These events should be encouraged more and more for the peace of human race.
