People Should people work quickly and risk making mistakes, or should they work slowly and make sure that everything they do is correct? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Get the topic correct before you begin.)
It's commonly accepted that both efficiency and accuracy are of great importance for people's work. However, opinions are diversified about the pattern of work: whether people should work quickly and risk making mistakes or work slowly and make sure that everything is correct. From my point of view, I prefer to work slowly with fewer mistakes.
Firstly, more mistakes always end up with RESULTS IN low efficiency. I have taken accounting in my third year of university, and most assignments requested us to complete balance sheets which consisted of several procedures. If one step was calculated wrong, then the following would be wrong as well. Once the sheet turns OUT to be unbalanced, I need to go back to check every step once again which consumes quite a lot OF time. Therefore, the time cost to correct those mistakes is much more than that to complete the assignment. In general, it helps me to be more effective if I work slowly and make sure that everything is correct.
Secondly, accuracy is considered as the representative of professionalism. A proposal with few mistakes not only shows a person’s expertise but also displays his attitude toward work. Only by fully concentrating on what he is doing can he produce a good performance at work. As a result, employees with attentive attitude can always get promotion and awards from their employers. When I was working in Societe Generale, the second largest bank in France, my colleague WAS just the type of PERSON who workS fast but inaccurately. He made small mistakes now and then, for instance, sending emails to the wrong recipients, thus leaving others an impression of unreliability. In contrast, I’m more careful and detail-driven. I feel confident of each project I’m in charge of because I can promise there are few mistakes. The supervisor is very satisfied with my work and gave me a high evaluation at the end of the year.
Thirdly, for some special functions, making mistakes will cause the company to suffer heavy losses. Take A Communications Department for example. The image and reputation of a company is being built through Communications which connect to the public. However, I still remember the time when one of my colleagues sent all media an on-boarding message of the new CEO whose name was spelled wrong. It’s easy to imagine how severe AN impact it has brought to our company. I believe if he HAD double-checked the press release, such mistakes could have been avoided.
Admittedly, in some urgent situations, people have to finish their work quickly. For example, when a crisis happens in a sudden, management should take action at the first time. IMMEDIATELY. However, as long as more people can be involved in this decision-making process, FEWER MISTAKES WOULD BE MADE.mistakes would be made fewer and fewer.
