Compare the contributions of artists to society with that of scientists #1 (permalink) Fri Jan 07, 2011 3:23 am   Compare the contributions of artists to society with that of scientists

It is generally agreed that society benefits from the work of its members. Compare the contributions of artists to society with the contributions of scientists to society. Which type of contribution do you think is valued more by your society?

It is generally agreed that society benefits from the work of its members, two of which are artists and scientists. Although each of them has their own ways to contribute to society, their contributions are both invaluable. While artists nourish our souls, scientists feed our minds. In my opinion, the contributions of scientists are more valued because their work is more necessary for my society.

Both scientists and artists have essential contributions to society. We can not exist without any of those two. Every step human being have made in history are based on their work. They are talented people, who devote their life to support the development of our society. These contributions, irrespective of whether they are of scientists or artists, all play an important part in our lives.

Artists, known as painters, writers, architects, designers, singers and actors, ect., have enlivened our surrounding. For example, painters and writers give us the inner reflections of our lives, our feeling and changes in current time through their masterpieces. They enable us to know how our ancestors lived long before us, and in the future, it is also these masterpieces that will tell our descendants the same thing. Architects and designers enhance the beauty of our country with imposing buildings. Singers and actors provide us with some form of entertainment and share our emotion in their songs and performances. Without the contribution of artists, there would be for less fun, our life would be very dull and above all, we would be unaware of our past.

Besides artists, the contributions of scientists can not be underestimated. We are indebted to scientists for their works and achievements. For instance, in terms of agriculture, they help farmers obtain better crop fields by mixing seeds. In medicine, many kinds of vaccines have been invented to prevent common diseases. The development of technology has made information about things around us accessible. These contributions of scientists have satified people’s wants and needs, making life easier and more comfortable.

As I have mentioned, the contributions of scientists are more valued by my society. Overview, my country is a poor one with low-developed economy. That is the reason why we need more support from scientists than artists. I do not mean we do not need artists. We for certain need them, need their contributions to grace our country and to help us relax after working, and so on. But in comparison with scientists, they are not as important. In my society where there is a strong demand for development, there is so much work to do that it leaves you nearly no time to enjoy yourself. If scientists help us build a house with full and convenient equipment, artists decorate it, fill it with colours and music. So how can we decorate the house once it has not been built yet? There will be time when the the contributions of artists are equally or even more valued than that of scientists, but not now.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that the work of artists and scientists, they have changed our lives a lot. Anyway, I think the contributions of scientists are more valued by my society as it gives people something defined as quality of life.
