Good morning, Kitos. Thanks so much for reviewing my essay. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The best way for governments to control energy conservation is to increase the prices of gasoline and electricity.
Energy, as a kind of precious resource, plays a vital role in sustaining and boosting the development of our society. How to conserve energy has been put on the top of the list of all government across the whole world. As far as I think, I am strongly opposed to the opinion that the best solution to restrict energy consuming is raising the prices of gasoline and electricity.
To begin with, from history we can easily find out that increasing priceS to restrict the consumption of gasoline IS A FUTILE EXERCISE. Take a look at the price of gasoline twenty years ago. At that time, the price was about twenty US cents per LITRE. With the time flying, both the price of gasoline and the number of cars on the road never ceaseS to roaring upRISE AT AN ALARMING RATE. At the present, the price is almost 6 times as much as the price twenty years ago. At the same time, the traffic jams ARE a big headache around the entire world, even though governments never stop roads and highways construction. Thereby, the oil conservation cannot be carried out ACHIEVED SIMPLY by raising the price.
On the other hand, the strategy OF using the price to limit the consumption of electricity, is not THE best bet either. Electricity plays a role as the corner stone in the development of whole society. Even if the price was increased, the TV sets in our homeS would still be on; the machines in the factories would still run, as they HAVE already became the base of our lives. Otherwise, the prosperity of the whole society would not last for too long. After an exhaustING working day, most of people will watch TV to help them relieve the pressure from stressful work. Given the TV is turned off to save the electricity, people have to choose other kinds of recreation. Soon, more pubs will appear to cater for people’s needS. near neighborhood. Consequently, more society problems will merge, such as: drinking and drivING, fightING after drunkING and diverse health problems caused by alcohol. The tranquillity of community will gEt hit badly. As for the manufactURING areaS, if factories shut down a portion of machines to save the electricity, the profit would certainly wane due to this action. More importantly, it would undoubtedly make an impact on the economy thriving in the whole society. Hence, trying to use price to restrain the electricity consuming is not a wise way.
Last but not least, there lie numerous other means, which can help save the energy resource other than simply utilizing price to constrain energy using. There is huge room for the PROMOTING OF public transportation systemS service promoting. The more convenient and efficient the public transportation is, the more people are willing to use it, and the fewer cars running on the road, the more oil can be saved, the less the exhaust gasES will be discharged, the better environment we will get. On the other side, governments are able to stimulate research about how to storage the surplus energy for later use, how to increase the efficiency and reduce the electricity consumption of appliances and machines.
All in all, it is not wise for governments by playing WITH the price to conserve energy resourceS. There are lots of better ways that can help us achieve the same goal, which will undoubtedly bring us more welfare. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Not too bad Channelee, but more practice still required.
