You have decided to give several hours each month to improve the community where you live. What is one thing you will do to improve your community? Why? Use specific reasons and details to explain your choice.
Contributing to THE development of my community is a significant job. As a high shool student, I have decided to spenD several hours each month teaching the illiterate. By doing this, I can help not only them and my community but also myself.
To begin with, teaching the illiterate important skills such as reading is a means of helping them to keep up with modern life. Unable to read, they are limited to the world AROUND THEM, no information of current events or knowledge about OTHER things around them. When others keep moving forwards, they are left behind, but everything will change if they are taught how to read and write. They will be able access to the source of human knowledge through books, newspaper and the Internet. They can express their attituDeS, their ideaS and their emotionS in a new form: writing. Their future is more ASsured when they have the possibility to learn any job they are interested in themselves. By volunteering to teach them these things, I help them gain more succeSS in THEIR LIVES.
Moreover, doing this is a way I can contribute to my community. This will help to reduce the illiteracy rate in society, which is a thorny problem to solve. One student may not account to much, but the wide-spreading of this activity will result in a remarkable CHANGE. It is likely that this will have A long-term positive effect in the future. For example, there will be less unemployment, AND society will remain more stable.
Finally, when it comes to myself, doing volunteer work like that will give me a lot of fun and new experiences. I find myself more valuable and my work meaningful in this life. I have more strength to keep trying. Besides, I come up with a great deal of experiences that I have never HAD before. When doing this, not only do I teach otherS, but I am also received precious practical lessons.
In conclusion, I believe teaching the illiterate is such a substantial job that not only me but everyone should take part in IT. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Nice work AM, and an even nicer idea.
