Urban areas are developing very fast. Some people think new buildings in urban areas should be built in traditional styles to protect our cultural heritage. Do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Answers:
Preserving traditional architecture and protecting it have gained wide attention throughout the society. Some people may perceive only constructing old-style buildings as the solution to it, some others yet believe this would hander the healthy growth of a city. I believe both the 2 sides have persuasive points. The former ones seem have very firm evidences. Initially, the best method to keep individuals remember and appreciate the residues of old architecture is to rebuild the same one somewhere in the cities. People would understand the functions and applications of the building if they lived in it everyday. Second, the processes of building also provide people the opportunities to restore the old techniques. If local residents started to replicate a traditional house, they would not only imitate the exterior look but the structures and techniques. The old ones would vanish without such processes. The opposite views have strong supporting too. First, copy the old styles would lead to failure and even collapse. Some old monuments and churches were not built by applying scientific designs. In another word, they are flawed in either basis or supporting structure. If such buildings were copied blindly, some disasters would definitely happen. Furthermore, many traditional buildings are mediocre from the outside looking, thus they are not worthy of being imitated. Last, modern buildings have more advantages in terms of functions and looks and they should primarily be selected by the builders. To sum up, I prefer we build some typical old buildings are copied somewhere in cities, but I oppose they are built overly. We could find a balance between the expansions of cities and preserving old traditional styles by joint efforts of the government and the local people like the building of history building museums, add such materials to the educational classes and more allocating to maintain the old ones.
