Tests and examinations are central feature of school systems in many countries. #1 (permalink) Sun Jan 16, 2011 12:11 pm   Tests and examinations are central feature of school systems in many countries.

Subject: Tests and examinations are central feature of school systems in many countries. Do you think the educational benefits of testing outwigh any disadvantages?

Althoug extremely stresfull, examinations and tests are crucial part of school esucation system in many countries. Students consider them as unnecessary, teachers as inevitable. Students can list numbers of their disadvantages but as a general view they are indisputably beneficial.

To begin with, test results indicate how much time each student spent on preparation and how good he or she understood the subject. As the teacher can see poor examination results he can devote more time to explaining problematic topic. What is more, examinations are the main motivation to learn. Without them less ambitious pupils would not feel any need to study. They would replace studies with computer games which create lazyness and stop young people from developing their inteligence and general knowledge. School kids very often do not understand link between doing homework and success in their future careers. Therefore, examination system is a motor which forces young individuals to acquire new skills.

On the other hand, from students' point of view bad marks can be demotivating. Students are required to learn everything that is presented during everyday classes instead of being able to focuse on the most interesting issues. Some youngsters are of the opinion that testing in unreasonable putting pressure on them. They believe that vast amount of study material will not be even used in their proffesional lives. In contrast, examinators believe that all areas of learning are essential as general education will make careless teenagers intelligent and responsible adults. Therefore, good test results will prove teacher's hard work was paid off.

To sum up, tests and examinations are always hated but extremely beneficial. Thanks to them students learn harder and go higher on the proffesional ladder. That is the reason I firmly believe that testing in school education system has more advantages than drawbacks.

Can you please asses my essay ? Many thanks for your help.
