Dear master,
Please, make a correction on my essay. I prepare it to upgrade my writing ability.
Thanks in advance :) -------------------
In my country, most of the people think that ones who love to read newspapers are considered as well educated people who always eager to know what happen in the world yesterday by reading morning papers or today by getting evening news paper. Based on the information, they make a decision. However, sometimes, holding a newspaper itself is a lifestyle. They like to be judged as the smart one.
Sometimes, some of my country’s people see others personality by knowing what kind of newspaper or magazine they read. If they love to read a serious daily newspaper, it means that they are really respectful citizens. Additionally, a foreign news paper is usually associated to not only foreign readers but also smart people. As a symbol, it notably can be seen on the manager’s or scholar’s table. Likewise, people may feel proud of them self when they hold a newspaper.
On the other hand, usually, red light newspaper, gossip tabloid or magazine is attached to those who are in the middle or lower social class. They are not interested with the politics, business, national or international issues, and other serious news. Nevertheless, they tend to enjoy reading criminal, celebrity gossip, and other light news.
Another interesting thing is the role of newspaper in a family. The children are often told in their school that in an ideal family, a father must be reading a news paper in the morning while the mother preparing the breakfast and the children are playing on the ground. Even though, in reality, that condition is hard to be found. They all do not have enough time to do those nice activities. The father will bring the newspaper to his office or get the newspaper at the workplace. Although, they read it in the morning, just the same with the doctrine, before they start to work. It will be less interesting to read the morning news in the afternoon. Hence, sometimes, the newspaper is just neglected only because it is considered as too late to be read.
Basically, people would like to have the information accurately as soon as possible and as simple as it can be. Then, when the internet come and give the answer, most of the people who can access the internet tend to move their media information from print media to the cyber one. They can read the news any where they want with many means like desktop PC, laptop, tablet PC, hand phone and others. That situation raises another problem. In US, many print media industries cannot survive not only because of the economic crisis but also the changing of the readers’ preferences. Moreover, the income from advertising is continuing to decline as the companies prefer to put their advertisement on the internet rather than in the newspaper.
That situation also happens in my country. The circulation of many print media is going down as the growing of internet access. It is very common for employees to open the online news on their office’s computer while they work. Additionally, it becomes very ordinary for young people to get the internet connection on their hand. The newspaper’s life style, explained above, obviously, has been transformed into the digital one.
If print media industries want to live longer, they have no choices other than being a convergence media. Media convergence is the merging of various kinds of media, previously considered separate and distinct (e.g., computers, television, radio, and newspapers), into a single media. By converging, the news media industries can provide their services based on consumers’ preferences. They can fulfill the need for both instant news and media life style.
However, the initial cost to be a convergence news media is very expensive. Even though, in the daily operation, the industries can get more output with the relatively lower cost. In case of my country, only a few media have already moved to the convergence media because they have good capital. On the other hand, the other media are very reluctant to change because of the budget constraint.
All in all, the existence of print news media depends on how they can fit their services with their readers’ preferences. The media convergence can be the bridge of the media and reader’s gap.
