Let's take some examples:
The plays shown in this theatre are not suitable for children under 12 unless otherwise noted in the details.
This means that generally the plays are not for children. However if the theatre produces a play which is suitable for young children, then when that play is advertised, it will state that the show is suitable for young children.
Unless otherwise noted, all special equipment is provided on our holiday tours.
This tells people they don't have to bring anything special. If they do need to bring a special piece of personal equipment with them then it will be indicated in the details of the relevant tour.
Is that any clearer?
