Hi Preet,
The first thing you need to do is start sticking to basic punctuation rules. Secondly, you need to complete the 30/30 Challenge.

| Oh,learing English is wonderful. I search for people who speak English and befriend them. I never disdain to make mistakes that come their own way and I am get corrected. Listening is most important. Listening to native tongue is still more imortant. By this way we learn intonation too. Next I read lot of material, in the beginning non textual books. While I read just go speed reading and I find the catchy words and underline them. I see the paragraphs and see the relevance. I have a rough idea. I go to the dictionary and compare. I translate the vernacular language into English and any other English into vernacular. It helps positiivly. Then I keep writing letters to my close friends. Slowly I started sending letters to the editors for local English dailies and when they get published, I am exited to see my name published. I have all the materials concerned with reading, and writing.English Roget"s Thesaurus is wonderful guide for writing. I always consicous of not making gramatical mistakes while writing especially the clauses. I read idioms and phrasial verbs. The best book I used to learn English is Bible. I made comparison of Egnlish Bible with my native language. It helps me. Further I lose no chance to speak only in English. Some time I am so mad that I speak English with non English people and they laugh and I too laugh. There is an English woman, she helps me for writing correct English. My name is shafee Ahmed from India and my email to contact is shafeeahmed22@yahoo.com. I wish everybody will learn the beautiful language of the world that is English. Kudos to you too. Thanks. |

Hello Torsten,
As for me I read books in English and watch movies as well in the original version but with subtitles,as it's much easier for me to understand.Besides, the best way to learn or improve your English is to communicate with others and I think this forum really gives us this chance. :)

| I've learnt almost all the English I know by reading books and short stories and using a dictionary for words I don't understand. |

Hi Torsten,
At my school in SriLanka, English was taught as second language. So my mother used to send me to private English tuitions. She was very determined that we speak in English as she cannot speak English but her other relatives can converse very flently.
So i learnt English by mainly with the help of my tuition teachers, reading books & watching English movies. But my uncles used to tell me that you should talk in English at home even if you make mistakes. By talking only you will improve. |

Hi dear friend, I~ll give a simple suggestion that worked and still working on me in any other subject. When I started studying English, every time I went or coming to work by bus or subway. I was reading, listen to audios. just ge your ears tired of English. and that is. just 10 or 15 minutes a day will work out. _________________ Joao Mª H. Fonseca

Hi torsten,
I think grammar is the foundation of any language. The same logic is when, your building a house should be applied. I am very happy the way we started at the scratch. reading and listening is good, but if there are many words that are not understood, there is noway to get the full meaning. For written English, we need to have accurate grammar. what I'd like to suggest is to provide us with some vocabulary in each lesson. with regards, jocool5 |

Hi Torsten. It's the first time I write to you. As to your questions on what I do to improve my English I say that I listen to English songs, watch movies, subscribe to newsletters, listen to some radio programs on the Internet and now I'm having a wonderful opportunity to talk to a native speaker who is visiting my hometown. It's been great and I've been teaching him some Portuguese which is my mother-tongue. My advice to English learners is the following: "Never be afraid of speaking- never be afraid of making mistakes" You should always try to do your best to make yourself understand. Congratulations on your website. It's been quite useful. God bless you all! |

Dear Torsten:
In cases like that, we use to say in Spain that ""Cada maestrillo tiene su librillo". I don't know what the right translation to English might be, but it means that there are as methods to learn a foreign language as individuals. CDs, books, papers, talking points... It's up to you. Anyway, your website is a good reference for all of us.
Best regards, Enrique |

Hi Tamer, To make a progress in learning how to speak English well it is important not to worry about your mistakes when speaking it. Because too much worrying makes you suspect if every simple word you say is correct or not, and you end up to be a poor speaker. You will also find it helpful if you read a joke, a story , short news or anything, and try to express same ideas in your own words without looking at the text and you read it again. You will see where you often make mistakes and what your shortcomings are. |
