Hi

I find very helpful your website. I have many subscriptions to English language websites but yours is the best I have ever found it. Congratulations for it!

I try several tests most days, but I think it is necessary to read newspapers or magazine or any book. This is much better than to try memorize or study a lot of vocabulary and it is not so boring. Also, to watch TV and listen radio.

I am Spanish and I have lived in England for one year. My English is far from being perfect but I think it is much better than one year ago.

Kinds Regards

..

Don't get disgusted by reading novels and magazines...it will take some time to get used to understand the actual meanings of the sentences..like your eyes taking time to get used to the darkness when you get in to a darker room.. keep trying the method and you will soon succeed..

Hello, everybody!

To answer the torsten's question, I think that there are many strategies to learn English, but the most important is to discover what way is the most favorable to each one. some of us learn listening, another reading, others writing, etc. according to the develop of our intelligences. For example to me is easy learn vocabulary or phrases watching, repeating and then writing them.

bye

Hello everyone!

Hmmm.. I guess listening and reading would be good, for starters. In my case, I learned to develop my English skills through reading, listening, writing, and conversing. Conversation with other people is a good way to test and confirm that what I have learned is right and applicable for that particular situation. Studying about grammar helped me to be conscious about how I phrase my sentences, but, I think it is not quite helpful especially when I become too conscious with grammar. AND, I always enjoy whatever activity I do to improve my English. ^^

One mentor taught me that if I wanted to speak good English, I must practice thinking in English. Which, I believe helps a lot too.

However, I learned English at a very young age. I guess that is also one factor.

I hope I imparted some useful ways of learning English!

Good evening Torsten:

An old saying'There is no shortcut to learning' is absolutely right.
i think no matter what kink of thing you learn,
learning everything must be step by step and foot on the ground,
and i found that accumulate strength is also an important thing for the beginner.
So i agree with your advice very much.

I listen to the broadcasting such as ICRT,BBC or CNN when i'm on commute every morning,
and that jsut spend 30 mins listening a day.
And in my free time, i will watch some movies on TV or computer.
In addition, you also can rent some DVDs from DVD store
and you'd better chose English subtitles to watch,
you not only learn some words or phrases new
but also listen the pronunciantion in the movie.
Or chose some favorite some songs to sing, word by word and repeat several times.
These methods all my way to learning English and i hope it will be useful to others.

cheers,
Joyce wu

The television show I like to watch is Friends and 24 Hours without any translation, we can watching it attached subtitle at the 1st time, and without subtitle at the 2nd time. It can help us to improve our listening ability and native speaking ways.
Now, this forum gives me a most fantastic chance to get along with learning English and make me happy every day.
Thanks a lot.
