Beauty and the beast

Hello all.
I was wondering why it is "beauty and the beast" and not "the beauty and the beast"?
Why only add "the" to "beast"?
I thought "beast" and "beauty" are only one person.

If I remember correctly, in the original version of the fairy tale, 'Beauty' was the girl's name (as well as being how she looked/acted).
