The arguer tries to correct the
council’s mistake on choosing the trash service provider and holds the opinion that Walnut Grove (WG) should continue using EZ instead of ABC. He holds his point of view for the reasons that EZ has ordered more trucks and according to a survey produced last year which suggests citizens' satisfaction towards EZ's service. The evidence seems strong on the surface but there are several inevitable logical flaws in this letter.
First and foremost, the arguer fails to substantiate the assumption that the citizen in WG have a lot of trash to deal with, which means the trash in the city needs collecting twice a week other than only once a week. Nevertheless, if WG is a small city where people do not produce much trash, there is no need to clean them twice a week, in other words, it's enough using ABC's service collecting the trash once a week, therefore, choosing EZ might be a huge waste of money and resource.
Secondly, when the arguer states that EZ, like ABC, currently has a fleet of 20 trucks-has ordered additional trucks, there is no evidence whether ABC hasn't ordered additional trucks. We can not be convinced without further information about ABC's plan for ordering more trucks.
Even if we are given the statistics that ABC will order no additional trucks or less trucks the EZ, it still does not necessarily indicate EZ is a prior choice compared with ABC, for the city may have a little requirement on trash trucks, 20 trucks are sufficiently enough.
Also, the evidence that 80% respondents to last year's town survey agreed that they were 'satisfied' with EZ's performance is not strong enough. Firstly, the census last year can not reflect the situation this year, let alone the EZ Company is the only option in the survey.
In sum, I can not agree with the arguer's suggestion that the WG should abandon ABC to choose EZ for their service provider in the next few years only by the unwarranted reasons in the letter. Only when given more evidence such as the actual statistic of the trash volume per week in WG and more information about ABC's service as well as more precise survey carried out among citizens can I believe the choice that the arguer made.
