Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? With the help of technology, students nowadays can learn more information and learn it more quickly. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Technology, students’ helper or not?
Students nowadays live in a world where overflowed with a variety of advanced technology which it still develops at a unbelievable speed. Undoubtedly, the role played by technology in students’ life has becomes more and more vital. However, this trend has intrigued a heated debate among people recently. Some say it could produce a positive effect in the process of students’ growth, while others, particularly some parents and educators, concerning about the drawbacks of technology would influence their children’s grade.
As far as I’m concerned, technology can be used as a tool to help students learn quickly and absorb more knowledge, while there are still some disadvantages we couldn’t ignore.
One of the merits of technology can be presented in the process of learning English. As learning English becomes a trend in our society, an increasing number of learning materials have been invented to help students to learn more easier and faster. For instance, in the past, few students owned tape recorders, even it was impossible for a average student because of its exorbitant price and limited production. But today, digital recorders can be see almost everywhere, and the tape recorders seems become an old school thing. Highly-developed technology has made diversified learning materials like MP3 and MD become readily available. With the help of these new devices, students are easily and freely download learning materials like MP3 files from the Internet, and the property of potable and convenient make students learn wherever and whenever they want.
However, it’ s a little bit haste to assert students can learn information more quickly, even we could not ignore the vast of information provided in the internet. Students certainly want to learn more and more quickly, but merely technology itself is not the solution. Learning itself is a skill and it only develops by practice, if we just download the files but fail to listen to them everyday, we could not get any improvement. Learning has never been easy, and will not be easier merely because of technologies, in fact, technologies are useless to students if students couldn’t overcome indolence that everyone has. It always requires tremendous efforts and determination to learn something well. Furthermore, technologies also have some drawbacks. Such as computers help students a lot in various ways, providing information and ways of education, but at the same time, some students play computer games unlimitedly only to find the outcomes are cerebrum fatigue, visual deterioration and another day of waste, finally influence their grades in the school.
Weighing the advantages and disadvantages technologies possess, in my opinion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, nevertheless, students want to learn something well always requires tremendous efforts and determination, too much advocacy on the fancy benefits of technologies will mislead much more than virtually help.
