Hello guys :)

Please help me out with these sentences. By the way, the words in bold are the words that I have to use in the sentence as part of our vocabulary test.

1. I thought the play was only mediocre. (This sentence kind of sounds odd to me. Is this sentence correct?)

2. Her English is on level of an amateur. (This sounds awkward to me too. )
What about this one: Her English is at an amateur level.

3. The project has a very unforeseen problem. (is this correct?)

4. The family is a society in miniature. (sounds odd to me too.)

5. The memo was in the vicinity of the desk. (Is vicinity a suitable word to use here. I think it's not right.)

6. She is an amateur at music. (is "at" the correct preposition to use?)

7. I got an unforeseen chance.

8. North Korea molest the U.S. (Molest also means to attack. Is it Okay to use molest in this sentence?)

9. The army makes dreadful atmosphere.

A million thanks :)

1. correct
2. Your second attempt is better.
3. There is an unforeseen problem with the project.
4. correct
5. As you suspect, that would not be the best example of use of 'vicinity'... but it is correct.
There is only one bank in the vicinity.
6. correct, but 'she is an amateur musician' would be better.
7. correct.
8. 'molest' would not be used in this example. It applies to the pestering or harassment of someone, typically in an aggressive or persistent manner. Where it means 'to attack' it indicates a sexual assault or sexual abuse of a person, especially a woman or child.
9. Use of 'dreadful' would be correct but your choice of the word 'atmosphere' isn't good there.
There was a dreadful atmosphere in the room.

By the way, what about if I put "sentence number 9" this way:

The army makes the atmosphere dreadful.

Would it make the sentence correct?

Thanks again :)

It still sounds strange, Nie.

The army cannot 'make' the atmosphere.

There is a dreadful atmosphere in the army.
