Why "near" not "next to"

You can live next to an object (a building) and near an area (the town centre).

As far as I know, a word is irrelevantly inserted into this test sentence of Question 10. The irrelevant word is "it", which causes the construction ungrammatical. Could you please look into this matter?

The sentence needs a comma or two:
Where we are living now, it is very easy to get to the shops because our house is near the town centre.

(i.e. it is an informal way of saying, "It is very easy to get to the shops from the place where we live at the moment...)

I can't access that set of questions.
