Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People would be happier if they had fewer possessions.
It is not possible to look at people's life as an activity divorced from their possessions, and this is where the issue arises. Conventionally, some would advocate the view, that fewer possession, more happier. From my standpoint, although there may be an advantage to agree with this idea, I still strongly believe there are far more advantages to disagree with this narrow notion.
One of the primary reasons is explicitly, undoubtedly, by the result conducted by the researchers at Yale. The date they present suggest more possessions will exert a positive effect on our life, this is what so-called " live happier ". By having more possessions, which means we will have more resources, and so that we can have affluent amounts of ways to improve our life quality. Life abounds with such examples. We can use the computers to stay with our relatives who are in the another country instead of missing them; we can use cars to go the places where we want to go and enjoy a good time there; we can be capable of eating all kinds of food all over the world if we like.
Actually, it would not be too great an exaggeration to say that we should gain more material possessions, and as well as the most important part, the spiritual. Support of this point came from the fact that if we have more spiritual possessions such as love, friendship, that is, we are able to live a more harmonious and comfortable life because we can share what we have no matter it is material or spiritual with people we trust. It is a effective way to release pressure from work and study, and as a result we will refocus on what we are doing with full energy, and reach the final destination, this is so-called " live happier " either, I think.
Admittedly, the notion that people would be happier if they had less possessions may have an advantage to some extent. For example, we will not worried about the safety of ourselves and our possessions any more, that is, we can live a common life just like most people want. However, this advantage is of no account when compared with the advantages of the opinion stated above.
In sum, despite the only advantage of this narrow notion, we can draw a conclusion readily people would not be happier if they had fewer possessions.
