Have you ever had the experience that you were fully thrilled with the fantasy from a sci-fiction movie? Have you ever had the experience that you couldn’t help laughing out loudly with the humor from a comedy movie? Have you ever had experience that you felt much cheerful with encouragement from an inspirational film? If you have ever had any of these experiences, you will understand how many different aspects we can benefit from watching different categories of movies and be more convinced that it is not only the movies which teach us about reality but also all the other various types of movies are worth watching.
Unquestionably, movies which teach us something about real life are worth watching. Frankly, people always acquire knowledge or enlightenment from the majority of movies. For instance, documentaries, such as historical and autobiographic movies, teach moral lessons in thought-provoking ways. It is indisputable that a movie like a beautiful mind definitely showed us fresh ways to understand humanity and ourselves. Besides, it would be a lot easier to understand about the connection between the academic knowledge and social applications through movies. The point is illustrated with the example of Discoveries, which always show some movies about my major---biology. These movies ignite a new light on what I have learned.
Nonetheless, there are many other categories of movies, besides educational category, are dramatically influence and greatly benefit our life as well. To begin with, Sci-fi movie, as one of the typical representative of movies that are not based on reality, brings significances to our life. Firstly, It broadens our field of vision with a fancy dream world it portrays in front of us; thus, it can make our imagination run wild. Take one of the recently popular sci-fi movies “Avatar” as an illustration; it is a movie a few people love to hate, while everyone else spends every free moment at the theater re-watching it. It attracted billions of audience successfully for one reason that it establishes a completely new world with all the imaginations and refreshes our visions with thrilling and beautiful images. Besides, from another perspective, Sci-fi movie also gives us some life teachings. As to “Avatar”, it not only provides us visual stimulation with fantastic images but also lead us to think a lot with the topic about “love” which it rises within the fancy storyline. Accordingly, Sci-fi movie can also guide us consider our own life from another point of view.
Moreover, comedy movie is another particular type of movies which is often not so related to our reality; but it does greatly benefit us, especially for our relaxation. Suppose you were facing extremely fierce competition with your work and felt completely stressed and depressed, what kind of movie would you choose to watch? As far as I concern, the answer is most likely to be “Comedy”. Admittedly, watching comedy movie is considered as one of the best way to deal with pressure and depression. According to Psychological Institute Investigation in 2010, watching funny videos or comedy can lower human’s blood pressure for the reason it helps people forget the annoyances of the reality. Therefore, comedy, as an entertaining rather than educational type of movies, also has plenty of advantages to our lives.
Generally speaking, even though movies like documentary or historical movies are valuable to watch as their educational impacts, there are many other types of movies such as sci-fi and comedy, which also greatly influence us and exert positive effects from many various aspects in our lives. Taking into account of all these factors, we may reach the conclusion that it is not only worth watching movies that can teach us something about real life, but also other movies that bring us imagination and relaxation.
