Is there any difference between "being a ..." and " as a..." ?

Here is a sentence using "being a...": Being college students,we shouldn't be content with being spoon-fed. can we use "as" instead of "being" in this sentence? if can, is there any difference ?

I would very appreciate any kind of your opinion. thanks.

Hi,

The meaning is really the same. Using 'As a' perhaps makes this more direct and personal, 'Being a' can sound a little impersonal.
