Topic: In general, people are living longer now. Discuss the causes of this phenomenon.
People nowadays live longer than has ever before. Among various factors that contribute to today's longevity of people are three most obvious ones: the improvement of food conditions, the development of modern medical technology, and finally current stability of economy.
The first agent, the improvement of food conditions, seems to be the most important reason of longevity. In the past, human beings had to hunt for food that sometimes were poisonous or too raw to get sick, not to mention considering the nutritious substances in food. While in todays society, people are accessible to untainted mineral water, sterilized milk, which are cheaply supplied in market, meanwhile, food industry has developed toward the direction of health and nutrition. That development of food condition guarantees a longevity of humans.
Moreover, the contribution of advanced medical technology could not ignored. Hundreds of years ago, scurvy, was called an incurable disease, leading a high mortality. Until scientists discovered vitamin C was the disease cured. Development of modern technology has always been amazing. It is hardly to imagine that people could live until now without advanced medical technology, they could have been defeated simply because of lacking vitamin.
Finally, it is economy stability of modern society that ensure a long life of people. People have less pressure in a more stable society, the less pressure they suffer, the healthier they are. In a wartime, fears and hazards were seem everywhere. Hopes of life was even a unachievable desire. Peaceful times provide people opportunity to enjoy their lives and make them safe, therefore indirectly contribute significantly to longevity of people.
In conclusion, factors of longevity are variety, no one could be the determinant one. However, as far as I am concerned, food conditions, highly developed technology, as well as economic stability that contribute more to the longevity of individuals.
