Currant and current

Both words are pronounced the same, Jan:[‘k?r9nt]. As you might know, the first can be a small dried grape (raisin) or a small soft fruit of various sorts (berries), like the black currant.

A 'season' at the theatre is a period in which a play or show, or a series of plays or shows, is performed in one place.

So 'current season' means the period which we are currently in.

The Royal Ballet's Summer Season included a series of works by Tschaikovsky.
