If a student doesn't go to school without permission, what do you say?

- He or she truants school or He or she skips school. Which one of these is mostly used.

I've found a few other sentences:

- They have been truanting school a lot.
- She truanted from school twice a week.

Is 'to truant' old-fashioned? If you have more information I would be very grateful.

Thanks
Alexandro

'She plays truant' is OK. Or 'She skips school'.
