Hi Internet Junkee,
In the sentence you are referring to we talk about the recent news - those events that have just happened. If a broadcasting station casts its last news then it stops working after that. So the last news is the final news and the latest news is the most recent news.

| As Torsten said, last news would imply "final news", as though there will be no news after that and the TV station will close down, which was not the intended meaning. |

Um not quite correct guys ....
The last news from CNN was that the troops had entered the city ..... BUT this does not mean the "final news" nor that CNN had stopped working after the last news.
The LAST news means the last thing said or published no matter how long ago it was or whether it was the final news or not, or even whether the source of the news still exists or not.
The LASTEST news is correctly described here. |

The last news is the final news in a news section. How do you think about the final news in a day? are they the same. I mean the last news at the end of a day and the last news in a news which is in the middle of the day and many news has remained until the final night news. Am I right? |

Last news - final news (possibly of that day)
Latest news - most recent news available.
'Lastest' is not a correct word in English. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
