Yes. He proved capable (of performing the task).
He proved he was able (to perform the task).
I'm not sure what you mean about 'any word used as "prove" ', sorry. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Hi Giang93,
If you want to know whether a different verb could be substituted in the sentence, then yes, there are some (not identical in meaning, though). For example:
- He was capable. - He looked capable. - He seemed capable.
Basically, so-called linking verbs are often used in the V+adj format.
- That soup tastes terrible. - This cloth feels soft.

Thanks for your help so much :) I mean verbs which're not linking verbs, like "prove" in this case for instance. In fact, this's a multiple-choice question "He proved _________" A. capable B. that he was capable C. a capable replacement D. being capable
At first, something like "intuition" told me the answer is A, but then, I thought that B's also not wrong so I choose it. Anyway, can you tell me why the answer is not B. Thanks :) |

This looks like another flawed test. There are many of them around. A case could be made for A, B or C to be accepted as the right answer. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
