From the book "A Christmas Carol":

"Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig took their stations, one on either side of the door, and shaking hands with every person"

I've been unable to find the meaning of that expression

Station in this sentence is a place where someone stands. It means that they took their posts or they stood at the door.
