. The idiom/proverb is Time flies, meaning it passes rapidly. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

"Time flies, it's difficult to believe that we've been here all day."
Hello teacher,
I have a question. Should we use a full stop instead of a comma after "Time flies."It will be like this: "Time flies. It's difficult to believe that we've been here all day."
Or If we use the comma after "Time flies," Is it OK to to add the word "so" to make the sentence like this: "Time flies, so it's difficult to believe that we've been here all day."
I am looking to hearing your feedback. Many thanks. _________________ Hoadong |

Hello Hoa,
You can use either the comma or full stop after 'time flies' in this example (depending on how long a pause you wish to signify). I wouldn't add 'so' to this particular sentence as it changes the meaning:
without 'so' - it's difficult to believe we've been here all day as the time has gone so quickly. with 'so' - time flying is the reason it's difficult to believe we've been here all day. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
