I'm not good at writing either, however I could give you an advice that you have to read as much as you can. There are tons of books about variety of subjects so I think you can choose some of them for you to practice. Just read the kinds of book you like to build your reading habit, then I believe you will make a noticeable progress. If you haven't decided to get along with any book type, I would like to recommend "The Oxford bookworm library" and "Penguin classic", for they have created a graded reading book collection for learner all around the world that you could find your suitable and right book for yourself. For me, I really engage in reading novel, history...and undoubtedly it has been very helpful. However, if you want to improve fast, you might want to take a look at some online writing courses: http://education-portal.com/articles/10_Universities_Offering_Free_Writing_Courses_Online.html Good luck with your English.:D |

What are you talking about? I'm confident that you can find some writing courses there. For instance, here is a "Writing and reading the essay" provided by MIT : http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/writing-and-humanistic-studies/21w-735-writing-and-reading-the-essay-fall-2005/ and you can download the materials including required reading information, assignments... Nevertheless, I might still want to suggest that you better spend time on reading intensively by picking and choosing reading meterials. If you like those written in good style, your English will certainly work out. Yet, you can still choose those you like first even it's just some pieces of news or short stories, but I'm sure that your predilection would alter over time and someday you might want to read the whole thick book and that would be the perfect time for you to work with wirting since through your reading process you have learnt a lot of vocabularies, phrases, writing styles and knowledge as well, meaning all the elements necessary for writing is now available for you to apply them into your own way of expression and I believe that's the point. Remember how you learnt literature in your own language when you were a child, you must read first in order to conduct a remark about what you just read, and the more you feel and understand the author's opinion and expression, the smoother and better written your essay is. You just have to work with grammar a little as you can learn a lot via reading activity. Don't spend too much time on learning how to writing well before you can read well and understand word comprehensively as a saying goes " Don't try to walk before you can crawl." It's my opinion because I did start learning writing two years ago but I so lacked of vocabulary, knowledge therefore I couldn't conduct a well-written argument essay. I got frustrated so I moved my direction into reading and vocabulary but most of time I spent on watching movies, thus my faculty of hearing English is pretty good. Three years get to know English, from knowing nothing to can read and listen fair well what ever I like, I feel quite satisfied although I could curtail the duration if I followed the right path at the first place. I really want to conduct a teaching metho based on my self-learning experience but it might just suit a certain amount of learners, and if it does, I believe they would make a very fast progress. Yet, leave it to the future. Now we still have to study. These are couple of words I would like you to take into consideration, I hope you might find it helpful. To conclude, I would say "To any extent, reading is so important, human being can go this far partly built on reading and analyzing our ancestor's accounts. Plato, Aristotle, Democritus... I'm quite sure they didn't learn how to write much but we all read their written records. Neither did Jane Austen, Emiliy Bronte...I think they didn't spend much time on learning how to write as in the way we have been tought at school, of course not all schools, I don't want to offend someone :D, but their written words are so beautiful, we can feel the smoothness and the direction of all events in the fictions as rivers flowing into the oceans. So delightful. Therefore, why don't we try to read them, they are all treasures of human history. " |

| Reading is absolutely the best, and easiest, way to improve both vocab and writing skills, in my opinion. Pick up any type of novel you like. I have read mostly science fiction and fantasy my entire life, but it absolutely helped me with my own language skills. |

Hello, I took my GRE a week back and got horrible scores. I struggled with quants for over 3 months and was shocked to see my score. My math has always been bad. I am taking it again in July. I desperately need some help. Is there anyone who can help me here? |
