or shall I say how to describe one quantity of them.
e.g. two ( ) of apples.
three ( ) of bananas.
four ( ) of lettuces.

Thanks so much.

Hi,

They would simply be: Two apples/four lettuces. The only different one would be: Three bunches of bananas.

Hi Ackeiyword,

Three bunches of bananas would denote an amount more than five bananas, as there is nothing to determine how many are in each bunch (also called a hand of bananas).
Single bananas would follow the same rules as explained for the other fruit and vegetables.

I find this thread very interesting. Here in Brazil, even though we can buy single fruits/vegetables/eggs/etc, we tipically buy them by certain fixed, standard amounts. We seldom buy four bananas; we buy (sub)multiples of a dozen bananas. So, we usually buy half a dozen bananas, a dozen eggs, and so on. Lettuce, however, is a little different. We don't buy four lettuces, we don't buy a dozen lettuces; we buy heads of lettuce.

Hi,

That's why I suggested a bunch of bananas because the question seemed to be about possible words for

one quantity of them.
