Can you give me some ideas on this topic and score it please? #1 (permalink) Fri May 20, 2011 0:33 am   Can you give me some ideas on this topic and score it please?

Hi everyone, can you please give me some ideas on this topic since I think my points are not really strong enough, I feel frustrated on this topic.........

Nowadays, some employers think academic qualities are more important than the life experiences and personal qualities when they choose the employees. Why this case takes place? Is this a negative or a positive development?
Nowadays, academic qualification usually is the prime criterion of most company’s recruitment process. Furthermore, it is much crucial than personal life experiences and qualities. This essay will illustrate the reason and explore whether this is a negative or a positive phenomenon.

To begin with, academic qualification is essential for one’s career. It represents one’s capability and competence in terms of involving in some specialised work areas and deal with tremendous workload. People with professional knowledge will be easier understood the whole procedure and process. Companies can spare much precious time from training and teaching the basic knowledge and skills.

However, admittedly, personal life experience and qualities are also two important factors that employers should consider. Since the immense progress of a society, enormous people have financial capability to attend university and acquire a relatively high qualification, such as MBA or PhD. Therefore, academic degrees become devalued and there is a tendency of companies started concerning on the personal life experiences and qualities. For example, if the candidate had previously experience in a similar position, the possibility of obtaining this job opportunity will be higher as he can easier adapt the new workplace and devote on his work. Furthermore, one’s ethical awareness is also courted as a crucial element. For instance, employees should be able to protect company’s confidential document and ensure not to disclose to the competitors.

In summary, I would like to consider that this is a negative development because I personally deem that academic qualification academic qualification should not be the primary concern in recruitment process. Employers also need to ensure whether the candidate is energetic, well-balanced and having a good behaviour and value.

Which side are you trying to argue? From your essay it is not totally clear. That is probably your main problem. If I had to guess, I would say you think that life experiences and personal qualities are more important. If so you could include:

University education provides a theoretical background, but not practical education - the only way to become successful in business is through real life experience.

Education plays only a minor role in success. Much more important is a strong work ethic. Hard work will always overcome a deficit in theoretical knowledge.

How about the intangibles, like honesty and kindness? Interpersonal relationships and ethical behavior cannot be adequately taught via an impersonal college education.

Give examples of famous businessmen like Bill Gates who never even completed college yet became huge successes in the corporate world.
