Topic: Describe a custom from your country that you would like people from other countries to adopt. Explain your choice, using specific reasons and examples.


In my country India, living with family is the most important than anything else. I would like people from other countries to adopt this custom because it is economical, it makes everybody’s life easier and kids learn important lessons from all the families that are living together.

First of all, it is always economical when people share a house together. There are three to four or even more families live together in India. For instance, grandparents, parents, brothers and their wives and kids all live together in one house in India. They are sharing all the bills like electric bill, gas bill, and air condition bill. It cuts their expenses on utility bill half or even less than that by living together. Moreover, they are also saving lots of money on property tax and mortgage because they only have to worry about paying off one house compare to 3 or 4 separate houses. If other countries adopt this custom then they might be able to solve bankruptcy problems and a lot of other money issues.

Secondly, everyone in family gets each other’s help which makes life a lot easier. For example, there are 8 adults are in the family living together. They can all together finish household work like doing dishes, laundry, vacuuming, cooking much faster than one person doing everything solely. Furthermore, grandparents would help the parents out by watching the kids while parents go to work. In addition, parents are obligated to take care of grandparents. This Indian custom of family living together makes everyone happy and no one would feel helpless at all.

Last but not least, when families live together, kids learn very important virtues. They learn to respect their elders by seeing their parents obeying their grandparents. They learn caring because everyone in family shows love and care for each other very much. They learn how to compromise and share their things with others. These are very important lessons that children can learn if the families are living together.
In conclusion, I think every country should adopt the custom of living families together because it is not only economical but also makes everyone in family happy and special.
