Topic: For successful development of a country, should a government focus its budget more on very young children education rather than on universities?
In today’s society, every government has to face the dilemma that whether to fund more on very young children education or on universities. It is a most debated one that it affects most counties’ education policies. Some people may prefer one to another although others just have no opinion on it at all. It is easy for average people to think funding universities is a better choice, because the development of the government relies on the elites from universities. From my point of view, I am strongly against this opinion. Several most important reasons of mine are listed as followed. Most important of all, childhood is a pivotal period of development. According to Piaget’s development theory, the attention to every period of the children development is indispensible. Once we miss it, it is gone. There is one very persuasive example that some researchers had done one cruel experiment many years ago. He separated very young children from their families for several years. Social withdrawal was noticed in this group of children, and they couldn’t trust anybody after the experiment. Besides, the plasticity of children’s character is incredible during the toddler stage. They form their personality and temperament in this period of time. Some experts mention that if people are not well treated during their childhood, it will be a risk factor for them to have personality disorder or other psychiatric problems after their growing up. For example, the suicide rate in Taiwan is very high, and it is generally believe that it is resulted from the inappropriate young children education. Finally, if our government focuses its budget on the young children education system, the universities can recruit more and more good students in the future. As an old proverb says, “investing today for tomorrow.” It is not necessary to worry about the budget of the universities so much. In a nutshell, after all the factors above are considered, we can safely come to the conclusion that children’s education needs more government budget than universities do.
