Hello Tingau,
I'm sorry that your question was overlooked previously. Sometimes on such a busy forum, despite our best intentions, some posts get missed, especially where they are posted in unrelated threads.
The professor invited us to give our opinions - this usage is correct. The professor asked us to give our opinions - this usage is correct.
However 'requested us' is not an appropriate form - despite what you may see written on the internet - the object pronoun 'us' cannot be directly used with it. As the answer key says, 'requested' is incorrect without changing the sentence in this sort of way: The professor requested that we give our opinions The professor requested our opinions from/of us. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Hi,
Although the original questioner may well have moved on, I would add that 'request' can be used as a transitive verb when it means 'ask for' as in: I have requested further information about this topic. When used with reference to 'ask', it is more often used in the passive form expressing a polite way of asking as in: Passengers are requested not to smoke in this vehicle.

The original questioner (Tingau) repeated this question last night, so I doubt that they have 'moved on'. They were very patient though, as they first asked last Summer :)
Thanks for the additional information. It clarifies things. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
