Hi shalini,

You asked:

Quote:
My house is between the grocery store and the gas station.

Correct answer: (d) between
_________________________

where do we use off?

Obviously here we have to use between because there are two objects either side. Off has many uses but in the matter of location we could use it like this: We live in a house in a small road just off the main road. In other words this means the small road comes away from the main road.

If you want to use 'off' in a similar sentence, meaning 'away from' or 'at some distance from', you could say for example:

My house is off the main road. The house is one mile off the beach. His house is just off the seafront.

It looks as if I'm stepping on your shoes, Alan, sorry. I guess it's just that it takes me longer to compose a reply and then I forget to look if someone has already answered.

Hi Conchita,

As a putative superannuated septuagenarian I take no offence whatsoever. It's really a case of great minds think alike.

Best wishes
