A clause has a subject and a predicate, just as a sentence does. So, it will contain a subject and a verb, but it may or may not be able to stand alone.
Clauses would be things like, "that he made us dinner," or, "which we wanted to say."
A phrase is a group of words that form a conceptual unit. It doesn't always have a subject and a predicate.
Phrases would be things like "my own house" or "get dirty". |
